Active Practical Love Initiative

Active Practical Love is the life’s work of Dr Tessabella Lovemore who has been my guide and teacher for the last ten years. Along with a group of colleagues, we have formed the Active Practical Love Initiative CIC to protect and continue Dr Tessabella Lovemore’s gift to the world that is Active Practical Love.

It is impossible to overstate the impact Active Practical Love has had on my life, the lives of my family, and the lives of those I support and interact with each day.

Below are the APL courses, all of which I also offer on a one-to-one basis for more intensive and individualised support.

The Listening Training

"This Listening Training is unique in that it is based on developing the capacities in the listener as well as inner freedom in the speaker.  There is a marked difference between this and other listening courses.

Typically, listening training and books on listening and communication involve guidance on how to behave, what to say, and how to prompt the speaker to speak. This training demonstrates how prompts, interjections of any kind, encouraging noises and encouraging behaviour manipulate the speaker. Ultimately, the listener learns to drop their own thoughts to focus on fearless, uninterrupted listening." (Dr Tessabella Lovemore)

My own experience has been that as I learn to gently move myself aside, I become open, truly open, to the other. I am continually astounded by the power of this experience both for the listener and the one being listened to. I have come to realise that many of us have never been truly listened to in our lives.

This course is suitable for professional organisations/schools, therapists, counsellors, teachers, parents and anyone wishing to improve their capacity to listen in professional or personal relationships.

How to Love Anyone

Each time I go through the exercises in this course brings a deepening of my understanding and capacity to love anyone. It has been incredibly powerful to witness those I have learnt to love in this way heal, flourish and open into the freedom of their own potential as human beings.

Active Practical Love (APL) helps others, and ourselves, to become who we truly are. When able to love in this way we learn how to free ourselves and enable the other to free themselves.

APL is a healing force that changes our core beliefs and resulting behaviour. It is impossible to overstate the impact this work has had on my life and on the lives of those I love.

How Children Learn

"How Children Learn is a course that gives you fresh eyes. Knowing how children learn brings informed understanding that will help you to read a child’s behaviour and inspire new ways of being with a child. I am glad to be able to introduce this course that will change your lives." (Dr Tessabella Lovemore)

This unique course encompasses the latest research in attachment, child-development, and neuroscience and offers ways of understanding How Children Learn and how obstacles to their learning are introduced by behaviourism and inherited attitudes.

Sense Enabling Mindfulness

Sense Enabling Mindfulness explores how life could change for those whose senses have been restricted, blunted, or damaged by life experiences or trauma. Research is confirming over and over again how traumatic experiences are stored in our bodies and impact how we perceive the world.

I am excited to be part of a group of professionals creating a very practical programme to discover the healing potential of the senses. A course is in the process of being developed and will be ready for practitioners wishing to develop their capacity to work with the senses in their existing therapeutic capacity.

Boys! Born Anxious

This is the latest APLi development being. New evidence is emerging about the impacts of hormonal fluctuations in utero for boys particularly and the impacts on brain and nervous system development and subsequent effects on attachment, learning, and behaviour.

“Males are more vulnerable to stressors in the social environment and from endocrine disruptors that negatively impact right brain development leading to increased risks of: autism; early onset schizophrenia; attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD); conduct disorders; traffic accidents; drowning; depression and suicide." (Dr Allan Schore)

This much-needed work is being offered as a set of masterclasses and as talks at schools and other establishments in the UK and across the world.
